Athlete of the Month

The Athlete of the Month for July is...
Rodney Messenger

This month's "Athlete of the Month" was not just selected by the coaching staff at CrossFit Nixa, but also by the members themselves.  Rodney's hard work and great approach to the workouts is infectious to all of those around him.  Very rarely does anyone come up to the coaches and say, "Hey, this member needs to be the athlete of the month!" Which is exactly what happened with Rodney.  The great thing about the CrossFit Nixa community, is that when someone is working hard and encouraging others, it inspires the other members to work harder as well.  Rodney's kind and generous nature makes all the classes with him fun, and his work ethic is second to none.  Rodney is the type of member every CrossFit gym is lucky to have, and we are very grateful that he is part of the CrossFit Nixa family.

Tell us about yourself: I am 38 years old I have two kids a 14 year old girl Elizabeth and a 7 year old boy William. I have been married for 13 year to my wife Toni. My fun in the past few months has been attending crossfit. I also enjoy fishing, but my favorite thing is to just sit on the back porch relaxing. I have nothing scandalous to report! I'm also a 2nd degree black belt in taekwondo and teach classes on Tuesday nights.

When did you start CrossFiting? I started crossfit in December of 2012 after the need to get back into shape. I was a little afraid to step into a took about a month to get the nerve to give it a try.

What did you first think when you came to CrossFit? My first work out was a tabata, Craig looked at me and said "just come back"....I was thinking, what have I got myself in to.

What does CrossFit  mean to you? As far as what crossfit means to me....First thing is how much better I feel. The mornings I wake up sore I joke that I am really helping my self. Crossfit has improved my life, I now have more energy at home and work and the challenge is a great stress relief.

If you could have a sandwich named after you, what would it be? (My wife helped) She said the grumbling Reuben because if I miss a few days working out I'm a little grumbling!
